“Cookies”: A cookie is a small data file that is transferred to your computer or mobile device. It stores information about your website visits on your [mobile device’s computer’s hard drive or in your computer], or temporarily in your computer’s memory. Like many websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to help us identify account holders, collect additional website usage data to enhance your experience on our website and improve our services. We may also use this information to target advertising. We do not require cookies for many parts of our services; however, most web browsers accept cookies automatically.
Currently there are two types of cookies, ”Session” and “Persistent.” Session cookies are created when you log on a website, and they get deleted when you close your browser or log off. Persistent cookies do not automatically get deleted upon closing your browser, but rather remain on your computer or mobile device for your convenience when you return to that website. This could be within the hour, the day, tomorrow or next month, or when they are set to expire. They help the computer remember where and when you were on that website.
You can delete cookies yourself on your computer or mobile device or set your browser to delete cookies on a predetermined schedule. For example on Internet Explorer, go to the menu bar, select “Tools” to view “Internet Options”, “Browsing History”, and delete “Manual or Automatic options”.
Some browsers may alert you when a website is attempting to place a cookie on your computer. However, if you disable cookies you may not be able to use our services properly.
Persistent Cookies: “Persistent cookies” or “Local Shared Objects” or “Flash Cookies” offer video and other interactive content. They allow you to view many exciting videos, music, or written information. A currently popular site is the Adobe Flash Player, which discloses on its website that it generates flash cookies. Adobe further states that you, as a user, are a licensee and provides in its End User License Agreement, that the Flash Players will enable the software to store certain user settings as a local shared object on our computer. Persistent cookies remember and can store more information than browser cookies and are managed through a different interface or website than the one your web browser provides.
As previously mentioned, the Internet has evolved to allow communications between websites and links while browsing the net. More information about you may be retained. Please note the URL contains the current standard or protocol in the use of HTTP, or HyperText Transfer Protocol. At the moment there is an even more secure communication platform known as HTTPS, or HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure. This communication is much more comprehensive and more secure for both you the user and the website.
Web Beacon: Basically a web beacon or a “web bug,” or “clear GIF” (Graphic Interchange Format), is a teeny-tiny graphic image, almost invisible or transparent, often used along with cookies. Web beacons may be placed on our website or in our emails. They help us understand you when you visit us via the website or in an e-mail.
